Bord Bia Mission to Indonesia

The Irish Food Board (Bord Bia) and the Embassy of Ireland in collaboration with EIBN held a dairy delegation from 29 to 31 October 2018 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta. Nine Irish companies operating in the dairy and dairy ingredients sector joined the business delegation. Series of events were prepared for the delegations in order for them to increasingly understand the Indonesian market. Also, they had the opportunity to get to know local representatives and stakeholders from the industry. During the three-day visit of the Irish delegation to Jakarta, the series of events were attended to as follows:

29th October 2018 – Site visits to dairy producing factories such as Kalbe, Liwaywey, Milko. Also,  the association of meat importers in Indonesia (ASPIDI) was visited, along with meat producers Jababeka and Indoguna Meat Shop.

30th October 2018 – The second day of the event started off with a briefing about the Indonesian dairy industry. There were speeches by, among others, representatives of KADIN, Eurocham, Danone Indonesia and the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and industry.  After the briefing had ended, several retails visits took the delegation to supermarket chains Ranch Market, Carrefour, Lotte Mart, Grand Lucky and Kemchick.

31st October 2018 – The seminar day started off with opening remarks by H.E. Olivia Leslie, Irish Ambassador to Indonesia. The Seminar is titled "Indonesia-Ireland Sustainable Dairy and Ingredients Seminar".  Several industry experts delivered their speeches during the seminar:

- Minister H.E. Michael Creed, Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine
- Ms. Tara McCarthy, CEO of Bord Bia
- Mr. Indrayana, Secretary General of GAPMII (The Indonesian Food & Beverage Association)
- Ms. Paula Barry Walsh, Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer at Department of Agriculture
- Mr. Padraig Brennan, Market Director of Bord Bia
- Mr. David Butler, Director at Sustainable Food System Ireland

The speeches were followed up by an early networking lunch. Here, representatives of all companies and government bodies had the opportunity to get to know each other in an informal setting. After lunch, pre-scheduled meetings took place in order for Irish companies to talk business with possible Indonesian partners.

In conclusion, around 50 representatives from more than 30 Indonesian dairy and dairy ingredients companies participated in the seminar and the business meetings. Also, the Irish delegation has visited multiple factories and sites in Indonesia. They have additionally gained exclusive country specific market knowledge presented by industry experts. Like the attending companies from Ireland, the EU-Indonesia Business Network looks back on a fruitful three-day event. We have had the pleasure to welcome the Irish minister of Agriculture, Food and Marine, Mr. H.E. Michael Creed and we have produced value in the form of concrete business opportunities for both European and Indonesian businesses.
