Govt to construct Medan-Lake Toba Toll Road to boost tourism sector
The government plans to construct a new section in Medan - Lake Toba toll road, from Kisaran to Lake Toba. The plan was announced by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PWPH) Basuki Hadimuljono at the parluament building on Wednesdasy (1/13). “Hutama Karya has been assigned to construct toll road sections from Medan, Tebing Tinggi, to Kisaran. The toll road section from Kisaran to Lake Toba is currently being reviewed to determine its investment value and its investors,” said Basuki.
According to Basuki, the new section aims at boosting the state revenue from the tourism sector. This is part of the government’s plan to develop infrastructure in 10 tourist destination sites in order to double the forex revenue from the tourism sector to US$20 billion by 2019 from US$10 billion last year.
“We have held a meeting last Saturday with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Coordinarting Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Minister of Environment and Forestry and Minister of Tourism to formulize the establishment of Lake Toba Authority similar to that in Nusa Dua,” Basuki added.
As was reported earlier, the government plans to develop 10 tourist destination sites in Indonesia including Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Mount Bromo (East Java), Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara), Tanjung Lesung (Banten), One Thousand Islands (Jakarta), Morotai Islands (Moluccas), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi), Belitung (Bangka-Belitung), and Yogyakarta.
