Maritime and Fishery Minister: Indonesia Has Largest Fishery Potential in ASEAN
The government has planned to optimize maritime and fishery sectors since Indonesia has the largest potential in both sectors among other ASEAN countries.
“Which ASEAN country has as huge potential as Indonesia?” NilantoPerbowo, director general for competitive edge reinforcement of marine and fisheries product at the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry during the commemoration of the second National Fishery Day in Jakarta on Saturday, November 21, 2015.
However, Nilanto deplored that the fisheries product manufacturing industry was still behind those in other countries, such as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Therefore, Nilanto added, the government aimed at boosting investment in the fisheries product manufacturing industry to improve the country’s competitiveness.
Through the Ministry, the government would support fishermen and small and medium enterprises operating in the maritime and fisheries sector by providing financing.
“The government will take a step in supporting the business climate and the economy by distributing loans in collaboration with banks and financial institutions,” Maritime and Fisheries Ministry secretary general SjariefWidjaja said.
Sjarief added that the Ministry’s micro loan program was supported by seven national banks and all regional development banks across Indonesia.
