The 6th EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue (EIBD)
The 6th EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue (EIBD) was held in Jakarta on 8th November. Already an established landmark event, this year's EIBD attracted several high level representatives of the Indonesian and the European business communities as well as high-level representatives from both sides’ governments. All participants at the conference were successfully able to discuss possible solutions and joint recommendations on issues affecting trade and investment between the EU and Indonesia.
The EIBD 2016 was supported by the European Commission, hosted by the EU-Indonesia Business Network (EIBN) and successfully organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), together with five European Chambers of Commerce in Indonesia (BritCham, EKONID, EuroCham, IFCCI and INA).
This year’s edition included the presence of the Vice President of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Jusuf Kalla and the High Commissioner of the European Union for Agriculture and Rural Development, H.E. Mr. Phil Hogan.
In light of the recent launch of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the EU and Indonesia, this year’s EIBD topic was “CEPA, Enhancing the EU – Indonesia Partnership: A New Framework for Bilateral Trade and Investment”. This inclusive agreement aims to boost the economic ties between the two economies based on a free trade agreement that comprises market access and facilitation of trade and investment.
High level executives from European and Indonesian companies were present in the 6th EIBD conference and discussed common recommendations from their respective sectors in terms of growth, competitiveness and sustainability, presenting them to senior representatives of the Indonesian Government and the European Commission.
The EIBD Conference featured several sector-specific discussions, namely agriculture, food and beverage, automotive, healthcare (pharmaceutical and medical technology) as well as transport and logistic.
The EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue was first launched in 2009 in Brussels as an initiative between the EU and the Indonesian government. The EIBD is the core forum of private business and government representatives and provides a platform for business communities and business leaders to have a constructive dialogue with Indonesian and EU representatives as well as to provide economic recommendations to ensure that business voices are heard.
