EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership:
Maximizing Trade and Investment Opportunities, Supporting Economic Reforms
The 7th EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue (EIBD) will be held in Jakarta on November 28, 2017.
EIBD is an annual forum conducted by Indonesian and European business leaders to formulate possible solutions and joint recommendations on issues affecting trade and investment between the EU and Indonesia. The upcoming EIBD is co-funded by the European Union.
With the increasing economic relations between the EU and Indonesia, further dialogue and cooperation are crucial for both sides. Initiated in 2016, the EU and Indonesia are currently in the third round of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (“CEPA”). The successful completion of CEPA would seize the full potential of the relations between the two economies. For Indonesia, the comprehensive nature of the agreement would help to promote the on-going economic reforms and contribute to the modernisation of the country.
As the CEPA negotiations move forward, the private and public sectors are invited to participate in providing recommendations to both negotiator teams. Chances of giving input are wide open, giving the opportunity to businesses to design the future of the EU-Indonesia relations. Business Chambers like EuroCham, KADIN, APINDO, and many others, stay active for their members to receive contributions for the negotiations.
To bring the EU-Indonesia economic relations to a next level, it is essential that all stakeholders engage in a proactive dialogue. This is where the EU-Indonesia Business Dialogue (EIBD) provides the ideal platform for all relevant counterparts to provide recommendations that can be fed into the CEPA negotiations.
Since 2009, the EIBD serves as the core platform for businesses and government for a constructive dialogue between the EU and Indonesia. The 7th EIBD will be held in Jakarta on November 28, 2017 with the theme of “EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership: Maximizing Trade and Investment Opportunities, Supporting Economic Reform".
With the CEPA underway, the EIBD becomes the key focal event to support the negotiations. For this year’s edition, the EIBD together with EuroCham, KADIN, APINDO and the European Bilateral Chambers, will address pressing issues within the CEPA and critical elements in Indonesia's economic reforms, such as trade in services including the movement of natural persons between the EU and Indonesia, standards harmonization, and customs and trade facilitation.
The aim is not only discussing high-level and abstract issues, but also elaborating on the day-to-day concerns of the business community. The expected outcome of this year’s event is to develop a concrete action plan, follow up, and solutions to address these crucial topics ahead of the CEPA implementation.
It is hoped that this approach will give further support in addition to the recommendation and consistent communication between businesses and government.
High level executives from European and Indonesian companies are invited to participate in the 7th EIBD forum to present the solutions their companies can offer to help Indonesia meet its targets in growth, competitiveness and sustainability.
Participation is open to Indonesian and European companies.
